Talk Abstract: What creative interpretive tools might we develop through engaging queer studies’ critical methods? And how might we translate these tools usefully into our reading and writing about Asian cultural production? To address these questions I detail the experience of conceptualizing, drafting, revising, and publishing my second book, A Proximate Remove: Queering Intimacy and Loss in The Tale of Genji. My goal is to demystify, deromanticize, and destigmatize this tortuous yet rewarding journey. My hope is that students and scholars in different stages of their writing will participate, bring questions, and leave with enhanced insight and confidence to craft their own manuscripts.
